TechIDManager continues to make technician access to privileged systems easier and more secure. With the introduction of the Tech Login by TechIDManager Windows Credential Provider, technicians can now log in to machines without ever handling or seeing passwords.
This new login method works alongside all existing access options and supports any TechIDManager account type used in your environment.
What Is the Tech Login Tile?
The Tech Login Tile is a Windows Credential Provider that appears directly on the Windows login screen. It allows a technician to request login to a machine and then approve that login request from their TechIDClient without typing, seeing, copying, or pasting credentials.
It supports access using:
- Local accounts
- Domain accounts
- Entra ID (Azure AD) accounts
- Unique accounts
- Shared accounts
- Just-in-Time (JIT) accounts
If a technician has access to an account that can log into the machine, the login tile can use it.
How the Technician Login Process Works
1
At the Windows login screen, the technician selects the tile labeled “Tech Login by TechIDManager.” |
2
A drop-down list of technicians who have access to that machine is displayed.
3
The technician selects their name.
4
A message appears instructing them to approve the request in the TechIDClient. |
5
From their computer or mobile device, the technician opens the TechIDManager client and sees a login request for that machine. |
6
The technician approves or denies the request. |
7
Once approved, the technician is automatically logged in to the machine. |
The technician doesn’t need to deal with any passwords during the login process.
There is:
- No password typing
- No password memorization
- No copying or pasting
- No credential injection
The login request is visible only to the selected technician. Each technician has to approve any use of their login.
How to Enable the Login Tile
The login tile is enabled per machine through the TechIDManager agent.
Requirements:
TechIDManager Agent version 6.316 or newer, installed and running.
Enable the Login Tile
1
Configure the agent to enable the TechLogin tile with: techidagent.exe logintile |
2
Once enabled, the login tile will appear on the Windows login screen for that machine.
You can verify whether the login tile is enabled by showing the agent options (techidagent.exe show) and checking the Login section.
Choosing Which Accounts Are Used for Login
By default the TechLogin tile is setup to use the default instance of the local TechIDAgent, with each techs’ unique local account. Optionally the TechLogin tile can be configured to use accounts created or managed by any TechIDManager agent that produces credentials valid for that machine.
Examples include:
- Domain accounts used to log into local machines
- Entra ID accounts
- Shared or JIT accounts created by another agent instance on the machine.
Setting the optional Agent GUID
1
Configure the agent to enable the Agent GUID tile with: techidagent.exe loginagentguid {GUID} |
2
Once enabled, the login tile will appear on the Windows login screen for that machine.
- Specify the AgentGUID (also sometimes called the DomainGUID) whose accounts should be used for login.
- The login tile will pull the technician’s assigned account from that agent and use it to authenticate.
Setting the optional Display Name
You can also set a custom agent name that appears in the technician drop-down list.
1
Configure the agent to enable the Agent NAME tile with: techidagent.exe loginagentname {NAME} |
2
Once enabled, the login tile will appear on the Windows login screen for that machine.
For example:
- Instead of showing a default local account name, the list might display “Martin – Entra ID Account”
This helps technicians clearly understand which type of account they are using to log in.
